AZ. AGR. Poliziano WineryThis winery is located in the Montepulciano wine zone. If you want to plan a Poliziano winery tour scroll down:
DescriptionThe Poliziano estate was founded in 1961 from an original
nucleus of 22 hectares, bought by my father, and has now reached 200 hectares,
of which 120 are cultivated with DOC and DOCG vineyards. As soon as I
had taken my degree in agriculture I spent a few years in northern Italy
where I gained experience in farm management and in 1980 I entered the
Poliziano estate. These were years of transformation, the market was rapidly
changing and at last quality became the dominating factor in winemaking
rather than quantity. It was a time of challenge which I met with great
enthusiasm and the desire to establish a new outlook in production for
my estate. I am an agronomist but I prefer to think of myself as a farmer
because I am convinced that great wines originate in the vineyard. This
is why my work at the Poliziano estate starts in the vineyards, eliminating
the less favourably positioned sites and replanting where conditions of
soil and climate are optimal. Selected clones, planting layouts, rootstocks,
pruning methods and training systems are chosen with the sole object of
producing grapes of premium quality. This is the starting-point for my
wines: they are made only from estate-grown grapes, respecting the characteristics
of their vintage and the zone they come from. The greatest care is taken
over production; the grapes are rigorously selected at varying stages,
during ripening, when they are harvested and when they arrive in the cellar.
Fermentation and maturation are carried out with the maximum attention:
the extraction of the polyphenolic substances from their skins takes place
in the new cellar in a very softy way and the choice of wood is carefully
made. I also place great importance on the representative character of
my wines: there are now fewer labels and their number will be further
reduced, since the aim is to produced and market wines which are highly
representative of their category and which the customer can easily recognize
and enjoy. Photo gallery
Wines from Poliziano WineryRosso di Montepulciano D.O.C.Tasting Notes: Is young, fruity,
full-bodied but not hard. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano D.O.C.GTasting Notes: Well structured, with
longevity and perfumes that are intense but not exaggerated, faithfully
expressive of deep, Tuscan roots and the ancient bond between the soil,
man and culture. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – Selezione “Asinone” D.O.C.G.Tasting Notes: This our most prestigious
wine, produced since 1983. It has an unmistakable style and distinct character,
but it is, nevertheless, capable of holding its own in relation to international
tastes. Le Stanze del Poliziano I.G.T.gtTasting Notes:
It has international taste while remembering the traditional value
of Montepulciano and its place in the production of great wines with strong
ageing potential. In Violas D.O.CTasting Notes:
Very pleasant, round, with red fruits notes and soft tannins.
Long finish. Mandrone di Lohsa I.G.T.Tasting Notes:
Powerful yet elegant, smooth yet well structured with a distinctive
Mediterranean character.
