Casa al Vento Description
The birth of the wine estate called “ Casa al
Vento “ constitutes a new challenge for the Gioffreda family who
just over 10 years ago dedicated passion and energy to the project of
bringing prestige to an ancient mediaeval village in the territory of
Gaiole in Chianti.
Farmhouses and barns, which had once been the homes of peasants and sharecroppers,
were restructured and renewed turning them into desirable holiday homes
, and then the work concentrated its attention on the vineyards , gradually
substituting the old plants with new clones of Sangiovese , Merlot and
Alicante, without however depriving the estate of the little portions
dedicated to Malvasia , the varietal which is indispensable for the production
of Vin Santo. Vineyards wrenched out of an uncontaminated landscape suddenly
appear amongst the steep slopes which surround the village , caressed
by the sun and the wind.
The annual production is about 30,000 bottles . The great interest in
natural agronomic methods which are less invasive , has lead to the decision
to take the difficult path towards being registered as a biological estate
, which gives more value to the wine production while safeguarding health
and environment .
